Hello Everybody!

I saw this picture this morning,

and it brought back a memory -one that never

did quite go away.

When I was a little girl, there was a cafe near my home.

If any such cafes are still in existence today
(and I believe that there are still a few) I think that

they would be considered to be "Retro"

Ahhh this cafe.... The proprieters were Italian, the ice cream was gorgeous, the sundae glasses, and the silver teaspoons were exquisite.

In this cafe, the wall opposite the main counter,

was lined with glass fronted display cabinets

which were kept locked,
untill such times, as a bona fide purchase

was about to be made!
The cabinets housed boxes of chocolates, really lavish affairs, bedecked with ribbons and all...

I seem to remember that some of those

ornate chocolate boxes (once emptied)

found their way to be used for storing photographs

...I know that all the woman folks in my family had at

least one "chocolate box" full of pictures!

At the far end of this cafe, there was a flight

of stairs (very steep indeed) which descended downwards..

to a splendid little tea-room.

The decor and furnishings were minimal.

It had a fine sprung floor...with tables and chairs

around the edge of the room
and in pride of place at one end stood a jukebox

As a teenager many a happy Sunday Morning I spent

there with my sister and friends...
(There was a fine trade-off with our parents)

we kids would tag along to church for an hour,

and then we were allowed to repair to our

beloved cafe, where we would gather in the

downstairs tearoom armed with our bottles of coke,

and we would smoke our cigarettes

(we were able to purchase "singles" back then)

and the music from the juke box, gave out

the soundtrack to our lives...

(i borrowed that last line from a song, but I can't quite remember at the moment where it comes from)

Another memory has just come back to me...

When I was in senior school, me and some friends, used to go at lunchtime to a chip-shop which was near

our school, this chip shop didn't have a proper tea-room

as such, but did have tables and chairs lined on
the wall opposite the counter, but at the far end of the chip-shop there was a table and sofa inside a little cubby
hole, and that was "our table" One of my friends from

those days, has sinced passed away.

She died of ovarian cancer.

It's no secret really, and some of you have

noticed it, lol but I am quite sentimental by nature,

I think tho' that it's surely something that we would all want for our kids,

is for them to have happy memories of their youth

and their friendships.

I'm not saying that it's roses all the time,

cos it seldom is,

but the world is getting so cold out there,

and dangerous...
even the word "coke" has a different connatation

these days!

Did any of yous ever hang out in the tea-rooms

with your friends and the jukebox?
all very "happy days", sort of stuff, but thats exactly

how it was...

I hope that you are all having a

lovely weekend.

I have been very blessed to be a recipient of

the "Weblog" Award.

3 times in fact! I was awarded it by

So I would like here to thank all 3 of you

I was thrilled to receive it! <ahem>

Well in the spirit of the Award, it befalls

me to pass it on to 7 others..and this I

will do, but believe me, it has been no easy

task picking just seven people...

so please please please, if anybody should read

this blog and wonder why their name isnt mentioned,

then I would like to say that all of my friends are

winners in my eyes!

1) Daria Daria is from shanghai and lists among her interests, languages, and when we became friends on spaces, daria opened a second space,

(the link that I published above for her)

for mainly english written blogs, so I could follow her entries,which I thought was extremely thoughtful of
her..she also willingly filled out a tag for me

(when I requested her)

and she wrote it all out in english, bless you Daria
I believe Daria that you are most deserving

of this award.

2) UK Lady UK Lady..or Storm to some,

and Jill to all of her friends...
Jill is a graphic designer finest kind, and produces

stunning hand painted pictures all her own work,

Jill (under her Storm alias), has a fine

networking space, where she hopes to draw a lot

of threads and peoples of the spaces community
together, I have already made a few new friends

from storm's space-please see my link

to storm's space over on the left hand columm of

my page. but to me, above all of this, I am proud to say that I am Jills friend, and she is mine

3) MizAngie I can't believe this as I look back but

I was on the verge of leaving spaces for good

(and I meant it too) and suddenly
Angie appeared in my guestbook and she

beseeched me not to leave as she had only just

met me...
the rest as they say is history...I always think of

angie now not only as my friend, but

she's my (spaces) angel

4) Bob Bob,is a friend of mine who is propieter of spaces cafe (i have a link to his space over on my left hand column)
Bob offers rich and varied fare, for the weary but happy spaces traveller,and ably assisted by his "critters"
his cafe is open 24/7 (normally) but I think that he

took spaces cafe kitchen on the road recently,

and they were last seen at the "fringe" otherwise known

as the Edinburgh festival...please be sure to check

him out on his return
(unless he is "spotted" and offered a hollywood contract)

I can see it now....Space Cafe to the Stars...

dont do it Bob cos,
east/west hame is best LOL

5) SuS I nominate Sus, because Sus embraces

Spaces, in a way that I have always aspired to,

I love her imagination, and
everything she brings to spaces. In just these past few months, Sus (in alter ego form) has been a

Nun a Sailor, and a Country Girl

(to name but a few) but most importantly to me,

she is my friend, a warm friend

and such FUN!

6) David and so toDavid... What can I say about David?

Well in my time here on Spaces, there is nobody who

has made me laugh Right out loud
in quite the way that He does.

It's not common knowledge round spaces,

but in the past, David has been my Road Manager,

my booking agent, my lead guitarist

(I sometimes sing on spaces with my sister Jiggy)

...Dave was my romantic, naay reluctant
valentine. Dave actually knocked me over one time

when he was driving his mini,

and he killed me in a fit of road rage,

but unluckily for him I survived, so that I could

tell yous all about it-

*twas all good Blog-land fun <ahem>
and now...dave actually got Jimmy Saville

to FIX it for me-

no kidding!

Do yous not believe me?

Well take a look at THIS!

Just don't ask me what it was that jimmy fixed!

Oh and if any of you reading this dont know David

I would highly recommend his space to you.."TheMusicZonecf" David has
the most comprehensive music site that I know of

in all of spaces, which includes music codes,

information about media
players the LOT!

7) Jiggy Jiggy ....She's my Spaces Sister, enuff said.

Hello Everybody!

We're home again...

It was a lovely break I must say...

although I was a weee bit sneaky and visited spaces a couple of times via my moby-

But now that I am home again, I do look forward to catching up with you all!

It's my Husband's Birthday today, so I would like to wish him a Very Happy Birthday!

I am very grateful to you dear hubby, for the way you have looked after me, and all of your nearest and dearest, you are a rock and a tower of strength to all of us!

*waits for cheque in the post!

No seriously I do want to thank you for everything, So get your glad rags ready mister! for tonight, I am going to be taking

The Day I read a Book

Hello Everybody,

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to leave...

I'm going to the seaside for a few days,

DON'T get excited! for I'm stopping in Scotland,

so not much chance of me copping any sunshine, unfortunately ...

Oh well? It looks like I will have to return to one

of my first loves then.

Noooo?

NOT my (darling) Hubby..<ahem>

...but..BOOKS!

(I'LL NEVER FORGET) THE DAY I READ A BOOK!

There's one day that I recall, though it was years ago.
All my life I will remember it, I know.
I'll never forget the day I read a book.

It was contagious, seventy pages.

There were pictures here and there,
So it wasn't hard to bear,

The day I read a book.

It's a shame I don't recall the name of the book.

It wasn't a history. I know because it had no plot.

It wasn't a mystery, because nobody there got shot.

The day I read a book ? I can't remember when,
But one o' these days, I'm gonna do it again.

I recently went to visit an elderly Aunt. She's just had one of those "Stair Lifts" installed in her house

(dead proud of it,she is.)

So she says to me...

A Picture Paints a Thousand Words

Hi Everybody...

Have you ever imagined what it would be like, if the animals could actually speak?

I think there are some people who lay claim to the fact that they can whisper to Horses, or chatter with the chimpanzees! <ahem>

I'm not knocking that, at all.

I like to keep an open mind about these things, but ye have to admit, that for most of us, we can only imagine what it would be like. (and what in fact animals would actually say if they could converse with us! )

Soo it got me to thinking...

I saw this picture of a cute little doggie...

...now surely there's only one word that springs to mind, when looking at this little fellar?

LOL...Hi Everbody!

Ive been tagged this season, not only once, but THREE times! lol
I did consider doing 24 factoids
and then I thought- NO
I apologise to the first person who tagged me first of all, Al for my delay in responding
(which is probably why I ended up being tagged for a second time) but I was sweating it,
with this de-caff detox... so ditto apology to the second person, UK Lady- Jill
and now I got Paul to apologise to as well! <sowee>

I think Maxine definitley had the last laugh here. I went cold turkey coming off the
caffeine, and I have had a very rough week this week (UNDERSTATEMENT). 'nuff said i think?

ok to the rules -

Each person posts the rules before their list,
then lists 8 things about themselves.

Ok. Here is my Tag

1) Forgive me for mentioning this one, but i'm overly proud of this achievment at the moment.
   I have now overcome and quit 3 addictive substances in my liftetime:
    Caffeine (on two seperate occasions) - second time around, for health reasons.
   * For anybody reading this who thinks "WTF?" then i would seriously invite you to try
   giving up caffeine (cold turkey) -as I did- and then let me know what you think.
   *Caffeine is found in Tea, green Tea,Coffee,some of the soft drinks, ALL energy drinks
   and energy glucose sweets, Chocolate (SEE?) and some medications. I was on a very high
   level of caffeine consumption mainly due to my tea drinking.
   and Ive also quit Nicotone..and ive never gone back to the cigs. My withdrawal symptoms
   from Caffeine (this time round) were so horrendous, I am not planning to return to tea
   and coffee again-ever.(de-caff only from now on)

2) " Margaret" is a family name, and without even thinking about it, I know of at least 8
family members (accross two generations) in my family who are called Margaret.

3) My left ankle is shored up with Titanium, after I broke my heel bone in 3 places.
My accident happened in a forest...

( I was with my family..)
     It was my son (aged 12 at the time) who ran off to raise the alarm, and came back
     with a hospital consultant in tow-no kidding.
     I had to be chair lifted out of the forest

(also no kidding)

4)   My afore mentioned accident happened when we were on holiday, so My hospital stay, was
     in a Hospital far from home. When I was eventually discharged, I was sent home in an
     ambulance. I was in an amulance full of elderly woman all of whom had broken their
     ankles, falling from either ladders or stools (ME? I had to be in a flamin forest-

didnt I?)

When the Ambulance Driver arrived to check we were all present, he burst out laughing!

There were six of us women in the ambulance, and all SIX of us had broken our left ankle! The Ambulance driver was seriously considering whether or not to phone
The local rag's photographer, to run round and take a picture of us. But he didnt

5)   However I have had my picture on the front page of my own local newspaper, it was taken
     while I was taking part in a fund-raising event, A friend and me were dressed up as
     "Men in Black"

6)   I had a breast cancer scare a year ago. A lump was found in one of my breasts, I found
     out that it was indeed a tumour, but (thank-god) it was benign * I include this in my
     tag, as I know how scared I was during that time, and I am willing to talk to anyone
     if they need somebody to talk to

(im not saying im an expert-far from it)

but I would be willing to listen. I know how it felt.

7) Years ago, I was invited to take part in a televised debate,which was being broadcast Live, for Scottish Television,on a programme highlighting "woman's issues" The programme was presented by Kaye Adams

(She went on to anchor the networked tv programme

"Loose Women")

At the 11th Hour, I chickened out of appearing, and Ive always regretted it.

8)   I have no sense of smell (whatsover) and my tastebuds are severly impaired, I am also
     very deaf, and i'm further hampered by tinnitus. Thats 3 of my senses either gone or
     impaired, but as a friend once said to me, which i thought was quite witty
     "Not to worry Mags-'Sense of Humour?

Hello Everybody,

I think Maxine (ok and Me) have got a reason for being tetchy today...

The Doctor has ordered us off of Caffeine...

(no lie folks, I have been told to quit caffeine. )

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh!!!

To be honest, I don't drink a LOT of coffee, but I do drink loads of Tea, but sadly that's IT, Ive been ordered to drink only caffeine free from now on!

I think that this little statement of Maxine's is going to have to be slightly amended in future...

....to .... "I give all my coffee away to EVERYBODY!!!"

But I still won't share my Man! <ahem>

I wish I had taken this piece of advice from Maxine, before I went to visit My Consultant that day...

Maxine told me to say this to the Doctor

Well I have to say, He wasn't best pleased, but Maxine did say to me that "sometimes doctors can make mistakes

-ye know?"

She Said to me-she said....

Me and Maxine used to be this way, but its little wonder that I have to admit, that it's getting easier without that caffeine hit...

Ye know? we have tried to expirement with alternative drinks, and yes we have made a few mistakes along the way! Maxine told me about one of her faux pas'

Oh well, I guess I better call this

"a wrap"

I dont want any of yous saying, what the Doctor Said to Me and Maxine, as we was leaving His Surgery...

...OMG!!! "wine!"

Is there caffeine in Wine? ...I havent googled for that yet!

I bet there IS!

Oh well, Me and Maxine will take our,

(unaccustomed grouchy) leave of you all...

Please Don't take this to heart willyas?

Normal pleasantries will be resumed once the caffeine is finally out of our systems!

Cry Freedom

Hi Everybody!

...well I wont say the actual year...its so long ago now <ahem> but the date of 4th of July, brought about for me that seminal moment, the one where I finally left home

- or flew the nest.
It marked for me, not only an exciting new chapter in my life,but I embarked on a new path, and there was never any
going back for me. I have a wonderful family,I want to say that. But unfortunately the relationship between me and my dad broke down irrevocably, and it was with sadness (understatement) that I finally packed my bags and left home for good.
I didnt see my family home again

(apart from one occasion, which I will speak about in a minute) untill almost exactly four
years later,following the sudden death of my father.

In the time inbetween, I tasted my new found freedom,

oh my god and I enjoyed it too!
A year later I met my (future) husband. We married a year after we first met. My Dad did not attend my wedding or indeed give me away (as is tradition in the UK) that role went to my brother. My dad didnt even meet my Husband. My son was born 3 years after my dad passed away. Its not for me to know,if the birth of my son would ever have brought about a reconcilliation between me and my dad-and yes I do know that as in every relationship, it really does take "two to tango" as it were.
Suffice it to say That I DID return to my family home to ask my dad if he would come to my wedding, and formally give me away at the ceremony. I was declined (non-verbally) ok- ignored. So that is all I really want to say about that.

My Husband and I will celebrate our silver wedding anniversary next March (god willing)

Well as in any person's life...many waters flow under the bridge. My son is now 19 years old, and he will be starting college this Autumn. The world is truly his oyster, and in his teenage years, he has been a more poised individual than I was at his age ( yeah yeah he has had his moments! LOL) but all the family are very proud of him.
I'm not sure what date he will record, as his own day of personal freedom, but for me it was most induibatbly the 4th of July
and as was the case for America- A very liberating date it was for me too!
