JoanieMahoney Where ARE You?

Hello Everybody!
Have any of yous heard from Joanie Mahoney?
Believe it or not it is now 3 months, since I last saw her on spaces, and I miss her terribly Sad Can I just do this one thing first? please excuse me for digressing so early on but Today in Scotland we are celebrating St. Andrews day, so if I can just fly the flag first> .... Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket hoKaay!  Smile
Joan was one of my first friends here on spaces, and i will not forget her. Funnily enough, Joan was the very first person to come here and answer a question that i asked.
*I wanted to know where i could go to purchase a blowtorch ok? lol and Joan bless her, came and told me where she bought hers.
So speaking of torches, its my intention to display a little eternal flame torch on my space, for my memory of joan, and also for a few more of my friends who are away from spaces at the moment.
Every single day here on spaces, Joan published some really beautiful pictures. She always stated painstakingly that she did not take any personal credit for the pictures she published, she just loved them and she wanted her friends to enjoy them too. Im going to show you just a few of them..and also publish one of her Jokes sections.
Joan published some funnies for us most nights.
So this Joan is a tribute to you, I really do hope that you are ok? I have been worrying about all sorts. But maybe its just a fact of life and of spaces, that people will come and people will go again. Take care my friend (hugs)

Joan once gave me a picture of an angel..i have it displayed somewhere on my space.. here are pictures from joan's space

Little Johnny rushes home from school. He invades the fridge and is scooping out some cherry vanilla ice cream when his mother enters the kitchen. She says, "Put that away, Little Johnny. You can’t have ice cream now. It’s too close to supper time. Go outside and play." Little Johnny whimpers and says, "There’s no one to play with." Trying to placate him, she says, "OK. I’ll play with you. What do you want to play?" "I wanna play ’Mommie and Daddy,’" Little Johnny whines in reply. Trying not to register surprise, and to further appease him, she says, "Fine, I’ll play. What do I do?" Little Johnny says, "You go up to the bedroom and lie down as if you’re taking a nap." Figuring that she can easily control the situation, Mom goes upstairs. Little Johnny, acting a bit cocky, swaggers down the hall and opens the utility closet. He puts on his fathers old fishing hat. As he starts up the stairs, he notices a cigarette butt in the ashtray on the end table. He picks it up and slips it in the corner of his mouth. At the top of the stairs he moves to the bedroom doorway. His mother raises her head and asks, "What do I do now?" In a gruff manner, Little Johnny says, "Get your ass downstairs and get that kid some ice cream!"

Yesterday

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

...all my troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as if theyre here to stay, oh I believe In Yesterday.
Suddenly, Im not half the man I used to be
theres a shadow hanging over me
Oh Yesterday came Suddenly.

Did Paul McCartney know what he was talking about when he penned those lines? Well I should coco
I believe that Paul McCartney wrote that song in memory of his mother (im not 100% certain)
I usually try to research in-depth, any content that I blog about.  Well I am blogging from the heart...im just not sure about that particular factoid.

"Why she had to go I dont know? she wouldnt say...
I said 'something wrong?' now I long for Yesterday."

Oh its bleeding heart time innit?  Sad

There's a fair bit of strife going on in my family at the moment, and If i was hoping for a fast, and adult approach, and a quick resolution, to the hostilities, I was sadly mistaken.We seem to have "stalemate" We went past deadlock ages ago...and now Everybody has taken a 'position'  Too bad we couldnt all have taken the same one eh? but hey ho  Confused
I cant sleep..and that just isnt helping matters.
WHAT HAPPENED TO PEACE AND GOODWILL TO ALL MEN?
thats what I want to know?
Call me old fashioned, but I always thought that it was prudent, to put ones own house in order first and foremost. I just dont know how much longer i can cope with this stand-off!
Me and my husband and my son are ok I hasten to add..*but ye know how families extend out from there, and relations can be so jolly! (NOT!)
and then ...
I found out that a friend of mine has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. She had been unwell for some time..and it was believed to be pneumonia. Then her lung collapsed, and thats when they discovered that she had cancer. It was the tumour that had caused the collapsed lung.
She has been told that its inoperable and is currently receiving chemotherapy.
Um sorry Embarrassed I just had to write all this down...and see if any of it makes any sense at all 'looks'
No it doesnt! Sad
I dont want to think about my family fued I want to think about my friend. I want to cry and I cant..I want to sleep and i cant....
and then ...
theres CHRISTMAS! just around the next bend! Open-mouthedSad
So if anybody has a spare broom closet or garden shed that they would like to hire out to me for the forthcoming christmas season...i dont eat much...a bit of sausage bacon egg and blackpudding...that would do me for suppertime..just to be getting on with, untill breakfast ye understand? Thinking
Well now ive written all this down I am going hit 'publish'
if only to try and put all this anguish to bed (hopefully)
and talking of bed maybe I will try lying down again.
night night peeps!
(this wasnt a happy blog at all. im sorry Embarrassed)

yes i KNOW what i said! ...

Hiya,
Yes on Monday I did announce that i might be taking a break from blogging. That statement was sincere, Theres a fair bit of turmoil going on in my life at the moment, but Hey? into each life a little rain must fall-right?
anyway? yesterday I was talking about football analagies, now gentle reader,THIs time? think more along the lines of "sex"
Just when i thought,that from spaces i might want to withdraw..i straIGHTAway want
 to dive Right back in again! <AHEM!> Embarrassed

See? I think I am the regular comedian (or should I say? comedienne?  Confused)  now, because i have just returned home from a comedy store club.
Some of the turns were FUNNy.
A lot of observational and social commentry going on...
So before i forget ..here were some of my favourite wittyisms...
The first guy bounced on the stage, and said he Had to tell us about a slight skirimish-nay..a FRACAS, that he witnessed in his local supermarket.
It was a "Domestic between a Husband and Wife...
This sympathetic (male) comedian, reckoned that the woman, was giving her husband a very bad verbal time of it...right there in the Supermarket ..and following a right general tongue lashing, a few physical threats were thrown in for good measure.
So at this point Security were becoming "concerned" and Archie-the Heid Bummer (thats a scottish term for Top Dog a.k.a The BOSS) stepped forward into the breech, to sort out this melee...He was rewarded by a tirade from the woman..."haw awayegoYaMUGye!  Weere no stealin onything frae your shoap!!  were FIGHTING! Hok?  Angry"
Surprised

The next comedian was talking about Alcahol, and how drinking and drinking habits change and evolve as we get older.
SO? when youre younger..ye brag about having drunk 12 pints of cider and 25 sambuccas...
but when you get older...your oh so drunken antics as you find yourself slumped accross a neighbours hedge or a ditch, will only serve to have you viewed upon as a right fa..ooh erm i dont think i can say that word on polite spaces Embarrassed)
So when your older...ye need to stick to the 2 pint rule
Yesssh ive only had the 2 pinstshs dear.....
and Yes there were a lot of funnies about sex, and i was gonna share some of them with you, but I fear i am not druuunk enough!
BecUSE ye see? Ive only had the Two Pooints (HIc!)  Confused

A Tale of Two Battles

Hi Everbody!

I don't know what kind of weather You were having yesterday, but beside me it rained rained  rained rained rained. You could say i got rained off of the pitch!-but more of pitches later...
So there was I yesterday, out in the RAIN, but that was ok because i was totally prepared for the inclement weather (or so i thought) ...when, without any warning or pre-curser of any kind, that disaster was looming ...the long stem leading from my umberalla's handle to spokes, suddenly snapped in the middle...leaving ME with a handle and a mean looking jagged spike!
As it was still gushing with rain, i hurriedly retrieved the top part of my brolly..so NOW there i was, with my umbrella..and a tiny part of the stem..the base of which  being lethally spiky at the point it had snapped in two.
And half a brolly is better than none I suppose, but i soon discovered that I was seriously handicapped, when it came to taking part in the "war of the brollies"
"think football"?  And my sorry brolly meant that my status, on the brolly field, was worse than being relagated to 2nd division ...I just wasnt even quoted...Sad
and because my arm had to be held up unaturally high towards the spokes, all the water ran straight up my sleeve...and the jagged edged stem managed a few scores of its own ..into the flesh of my hand ..(i had no gloves)
ooh I can laugh about it now  ...Angry
So cut to later on last night, I admit I had a few drinks, and decided to try and have an early night (ive been suffering from insomnia lately) ..so I switches on the telly, and WOAH Surprised it was the last 15 minutes or so of the England V Croatia match.
So Im feeling quite merry arent I?  cos of the few drinks and that, so I peers at the TV screen, Picks out "England" and starts singing "yabadaba doo and we are the boys in BLUE singing easy eeeasy" Embarrassed
I remained in this sublime state of ignorance, untill Croatia scored their final goal...
I'm yelling "Yes! 3-2 to England!" and the announcer was crying into his pint, saying we're out of the commonwealth tournament!" .... Confused
So now I have to move down to the end of the bed and stare at the screen, and thats when i saw David Bekham! (wearing WHITE)
*Why do I ADMIT these things!!!
Anyway I hope (football aside) you are all having a great week,
Have some Shortbread! Open-mouthed

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Butter Shortbread

Ingredients
9oz plain (all purpose) flour
3oz caster sugar
6oz unsalted butter (NOT MARGARINE)

Preparation
Mix flour and sugar. Rub in butter and knead with warm hands until thoroughly combined and smooth (no cracks) – overwork rather than underwork.
Divide into two equal parts and press into the bottom of 2 x 7” lightly buttered cake tins (it should be quite thin). Flute edges with your knuckle. Prick all over with a fork and mark each one into six sections. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Bake at 160C for 30 mins. When done it should just start to brown and look a little risen and spongy. Leave to cool just a little then retrace the sections right through the shortbread (do this before it gets cold as the cake becomes very brittle and will break when you try to cut it). Turn out the sections when cold.

Beth That recipe was especially for you...

The Weekend Soldier

Hi Everbody,
The Weekend is here, yaaaaay!
Ye know when i was a wee girl, i was a fully paid up member of the Enid Blyton Fellowship, and i long nursed a suspicion that I was missing out on having Not been ripped from the bosom of my family, and banished for much of every single year, to attend  "Boarding School" ..HEY? i was missing out on midnight feasts!
Sharing a few broken biscuits with my sister, under the blankets, it just wasnt the same thing....
And then, when i became a teenager, i courted the fond notion of becoming a Wren, I really did.
When I was 17 I almost realised an aspiration to join the services, when i was literally beckoned into a recruitment office as i was passing by (no kidding) I can still remember that scenario as if it was yesterday, The recruitment officer was drafting up a specimen application form for me to take home and show my parents..and all was going good, untill it came to the question of my age. I had just turned 17 and i can still see the crestfallen expression on that man's face.
I hurriedly reminded him that it was HE who had been insistant that i step inside.
Sadly for me, the moment was lost (forever seemingly) and I never did become a Wren (never got no midnight feasts neither) uM? well yer maybe i did get the late night picnics, but thats a different blog entirely..<AHEM> Open-mouthed
With our Eyes, having been turned this past week, towards Remembrance Day, and our fallen, and those who are currently serving overseas, I thought i would like to pay lip service, to another army..who at many levels I believe are integrated with our regular armed forces, and i am talking about the Territorial Army.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
THE FOLLOWING IS A DIRECT QUOTE FROM A TERRITORIAL ARMY WEBSITE:

RESERVE OF FIRST CHOICE
For many years the TA was regarded as the ‘Reserve of last resort’, a force to be called upon only when the nation’s back was against the wall.
Today, it is the ‘Reserve of first choice’, an integral part of Britain’s land forces, using much of the same equipment, operating to the same standards and providing indispensable support to the Regular Army. Indeed, the expression ‘One Army’ is what drives current recruitment and selection, and encapsulates the role of today’s Territorial Army.
On the 1st April 2008 it will be the 100th Anniversary of the TA Formation (how about that then?)
WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE REGULAR ARMY
It is fair to say that throughout its history, almost every major operation has seen TA soldiers operating alongside their Regular counterparts.
The TA is the largest of all the Reserve Forces, the others being the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR), the Royal Marines Reserve (RMR) and the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Billy Connolly, A Scotish Comedian, and Folk singer, was once a Member of the Territorial Army in Scotland.. and He Penned an ode, a very fond tribute to "The Weekend Soldier" Here are the Lyrics ...
I am the Weekend Soldier, and the World Is Scared of Me ...
Ive Fought a Million Battles and, Im always Home in time for tea.
When I was but a Spotty Youth, and tired of being ignored
I suddenly said TO myself.."now why are You so bored?"
I wanted some adventure, some muscles and some power
SO i went to my local territorials, and Joined-within the hour
oh YES i am the weekend Soldier, and the world is scared of me
Ive fought a million battles and, Im always home in time for tea.
Well Ive been in the Terries, for a wee while nooo
And I must say it isnt aww that bad...
Fur when I put my red beret On- I feel like Alan Ladd
Oh my camoflage smock fits me perfectly but the trousers..could be improved
Ive had to take three steps or more....before THEY even start to move.
OH yes I am the weekend soldier, and the world is scared of me
Ive fought a million battles and, Im always home in time for tea.
SO watch out awww you baddies? or I'll be on you in a Trice!
aww this is the way to see the world boys, Weve been to Edinburgh Twice!
Aye and awww you left wing radicals? dont give us any of your cheek
an huv the Revolution on a SATurday, fur I have tae work through the week
OH YES i am the weekend Soldier, and the world is scared of me
Ive fought a million battles and, Im always home in time for Tea
~~~~~~~~~

So? I hope ive learned at least One thING from certain politicians,
and that is how to BURY bad news....
ok i admit it...I am BOTTLING it BIG style about the Scotland V Italy Match on Saturday..
Why? Because i have a bet on with the Judge... yer....

Mag's Thursday Kitchen

Rumtop (Rumtopf)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This makes a wonderful desert, topped with whipped cream, or a little vanilla ice cream.
This desert is made in a "Rumtop" like the one shown below ...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My own Rumtop being a Dark Brown colour is rather Drab in comparison LOL but it still gets the Job Done

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ingredients:

Fruit (see notes below on Type and preparation)
Sugar 1/2 lb to each One lb of fruit
Rum Your choice wether to use dark or white. Rum gives the best flavour but it will colour the fruit.

Method: To be made in a Rumtop or any Jar with a wide neck. NEVER use a metal container. Make sure equipment is steralised before use.

Notes: Suitable fruit for this recipe are firm, soft fleshed fruits as follows:
berries (e.g. raspberries. blackberries. strawberries, boysenberries, tayberries, goosberries) cherries, plums apricots and currants (black white and red)
UNSUITABLE fruit, include apples, bananas, peaches, nectarines, and ALL citrus fruits.

TO PREPARE
ensure that only ripe UNblemished fruit are used, no damaged or over ripe fruit should be used as these can spark off fermentation
Fruit should be carefully washed prior to use
Place some pieces of fruit into a bowl (normally first fruit to be used would be strawberries which should be hulled
IMPORTANT. For the first layer add equal weight of fruit and sugar, so first layer preparation You add 1lb of sugar to 1 lb weight of strawberries, mix carefully so as not to damage the fruit and allow to sit for 1/2 hour before adding to the rumtop
cover with rum ensuring that the fruit is completely immersed. this is important and a small saucer can be weighted on top of the fruit to make sure it is immersed in the rum at all times
cover the pot with the lid..you may use clingfilm  but dont make it too tight
leave in a dark place.
after a week, you can add more pieces of prepared fruit and from now on HALF the weight of sugar..to the rumtop do not stir the mixture..and top up the level of rum to cover all of the fruit..recover..leave in dark place...
you keep repeating this method untill your rumtop is full (pineapple is normally the last fruit to go into the rumtop)... the actual dish would be ready for consuming by christmas..but you can keep a rumtop going for up to 3 months for maximum taste.
the liquer can be strained at the end of the process and served as a liquer

On Mother Kelly's Doorstep

...Down Paradise Row!

Well? ye can call me sentimental if ye like! Smile but following yesterday, Remembrance Sunday, I have come over all Nostalgic.
These days, there doesnt seem to be much time spared for quiet reflection, and Remembrance Sunday, does afford an oppertunity, to take, just even a few minutes and look back, to a different era, a time when the world was at all levels actively engaged in war. And especially to remember the bravery of those men and woman, who bravely set off to fight for us in other countries, some of them (many of them) never to return. I come from a generation, that, in my childhood, we werent allowed to forget about the past war, even for five minutes (no kidding) LOL ..but seriously may we never forget the sacrifices that were made for so many, by so few. ...
Inevitabley when my mind goes back as far as i can stretch it, I end up thinking of my grandmother. She had a large family,(and a large house to raise them in) and their ages were quite ranging (one of them was my mum) and during the war, the youngest ones were sent away for a time, (or evacuated)
After 2 years had passed a ministerial official, arrived at my grandmothers house, to request (order more like) that she take in some evacuees ..
My grandmother was indignant, and told the official, that if she was to take in any children, she would bring back her own family, and thats what she did.
An amazing co-incidence happened to my mum just a few years ago. She was on a touring holiday, and she fell into the company of another scotish party who were on the trip. One night when they were all chatting, they found out that my mum had  stayed with the family of her new companions, during the war... they had all played together as children. Surprised
So back to my gran again, i have found that i feel so much closer to her memory, since i wrote a poem for her. She died many years ago, but i still think of her often, and especially yesterday.
On Mother Kellys Doorstep, was a song my Gran loved...I give you the lyrics!- Here you are Gran! especially for YOU!   Smile

For Remembrance Sunday-Lest We Forget ..

Please wear a Poppy

Please wear a poppy," the lady said
And held one forth, but I shook my head.
Then I stopped and watched as she offered them there,
And her face was old and lined with care;
But beneath the scars the years had made
There remained a smile that refused to fade.
A boy came whistling down the street,
Bouncing along on care-free feet.
His smile was full of joy and fun,
"Lady," said he, "may I have one?"
When she's pinned in on he turned to say,
"Why do we wear a poppy today?"
The lady smiled in her wistful way
And answered, "This is Remembrance Day,
And the poppy there is the symbol for
The gallant men who died in war.
And because they did, you and I are free -
That's why we wear a poppy, you see.
"I had a boy about your size,
With golden hair and big blue eyes.
He loved to play and jump and shout,
Free as a bird he would race about.
As the years went by he learned and grew
and became a man - as you will, too.
"He was fine and strong, with a boyish smile,
But he'd seemed with us such a little while
When war broke out and he went away.
I still remember his face that day
When he smiled at me and said, Goodbye,
I'll be back soon, Mom, so please don't cry.
"But the war went on and he had to stay,
And all I could do was wait and pray.
His letters told of the awful fight,
(I can see it still in my dreams at night),
With the tanks and guns and cruel barbed wire,
And the mines and bullets, the bombs and fire.
"Till at last, at last, the war was won -
And that's why we wear a poppy son."
The small boy turned as if to go,
Then said, "Thanks, lady, I'm glad to know.
That sure did sound like an awful fight,
But your son - did he come back all right?"
A tear rolled down each faded check;
She shook her head, but didn't speak.
I slunk away in a sort of shame,
And if you were me you'd have done the same;
For our thanks, in giving, if oft delayed,
Thought our freedom was bought - and thousands paid!
And so when we see a poppy worn,
Let us reflect on the burden borne,
By those who gave their very all
When asked to answer their country's call
That we at home in peace might live.
Then wear a poppy! Remember - and give!

CHRISTMAS CAKE

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Hi Folks, The Kitchen is finally opened, its been one of those days, I was awake all last night... i should really have published while i was burning the midnight oil.
I am probably be going to base most of my recipes around christmas ideas, and im publishing the christmas cake recipe first.
I'm trying to keep things simple as possible, so this cake is not iced, instead it is topped by a glaze and studded with fruit/and or nuts...so here is your recipe for Christmas Cake. This is a Nigella Lawson Recipe.

Ingrediants:

6 cups best-quality mixed dried fruit
1-1/2 sticks unsalted butter
1-1/2 cups dark brown sugar
3/4 cup (8-3/4 ounce can) sweetened chestnut puree or spread
1/2 cup dark rum
Juice and zest of 1 orange
Zest of 1 lemon
3 large eggs, beaten
1-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
To Decorate
4 tablespoons smooth apricot jam
Approximately 2 cups assorted glacé fruits, blanched almonds, pecans and marrons glacés
Preheat the oven to 300°F (though you might prefer to do this after the fruits and so forth have started bubbling in their pan). Line the sides and bottom of a deep 8-inch round cake pan with a double layer of wax paper. The wax paper should be higher than the sides of the pan. Wrap a double layer of brown paper (the kind used for parcels) around the outside of the pan, tying it with string. The paper should be double the height of the pan, and this gives an extra layer of insulation for the cake so that it cooks slowly. If you don't have any brown paper, it is not absolutely necessary, but it will keep the cake from becoming too dark around the sides and top.
Put the dried fruit, butter, sugar, chestnut puree or spread, rum and orange juice and zests into a large wide saucepan and bring to the boil gently, stirring as the butter melts. Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, and then take it off the heat and leave to stand for 30 minutes, by which time the fruits will have been soused and the mixture cooled slightly. Now, add the beaten eggs, flour, baking powder and spices and stir to combine.
Pour the fruit cake mixture very carefully into the prepared cake pan.
Place in the oven and bake for 1-3/4 to 2 hours, by which time the top of the cake should be firm and dry and will have cracked a little. If you insert a cake tester into the middle of the cake it will still come out a little sticky.
Put the cake on a cooling rack and take off the brown paper from around the outside of the pan. It will hold its heat and take a long while to cool, but once it has cooled completely, unmold it from the pan and wrap the cake well in a layer of wax paper and then aluminum foil until you want to decorate it.
Spoon the apricot jam into a saucepan and add a tablespoon of water. Heat gently, stirring to make a sticky glaze and then take off the heat to cool.
Paint the top of the cake with the apricot glaze, and then decorate with the fruits and nuts of your choice. I find it easier to cut the glace fruits into pieces and then fit everything together like a jigsaw puzzle.
When the top is completely covered in the glacé fruits and nuts, paint a second coat of apricot glaze over the top to give a glossy finish.
The cake will keep for a couple of months well wrapped and in a cool dark place.
If you want a more boozy offering you can feed the cake with 3 tablespoons more rum as soon as it gets out of the oven. That's to say, pierce the top of the cake several times with a fine skewer, spoon over the rum and let it sink in.
You can also play with the fruits and taste of the cake; for instance, substitute apricot jam for the chestnut puree and halve the mixed dried fruit, making up the weight with chopped dried apricots, replace the rum with apricot brandy, add a drop of almond extract to the cake mixture and cover with slivered almonds as you bake. Obviously, it will not need icing or any fruit topping. Or you can reduce the fruit mixture, throw in many natural colored glacé cherries, quartered to make up the weight and replace the rum with cherry brandy and when the cake's cool, glaze with sieved cherry jam and cover just with pecan halves and natural, dark, glacé cherries.

My "d" keeps typing "e"

Hi,
Some of you who know me, will have heard my boasts about how I do touch type, I never look down at the keyboard ever-oh no, apart from the hash key, (which it once took me about ten minutes to find, no kidding) um? now where is it again? ...oh yeah there it is # Smile
omg i read over this blog before publishing  "hash key" who does that remind me of? hahahaha Tongue out  - anyway i digress ..
The other thing is, I type with this basement bargain keyboard..and now more than half of the characters have literally worn off of the keys, which means that If i look down at the keyboard, i do not have a freakin clue where any of the characters are..Confused
So yeah? there was that one time that i needed the hash key..and i couldnt find it Embarrassed

So I was making a new album yesterday, featuring the Hoo Hah that I hosted for Bob's Critters, and all was going (reasonably) well, untill ... I was typing in the caption for Wendy Wombat... so i types weney wombat (im typing fast) lol and then i looked, so i thinks "typo" so i went back, watches the screen this time, and types wene... Surprised huh? WENE... wTf???
so I BASHES the keyboard  Angel
wenddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
OH FFSAKE! <ahem>  AngelEmbarrassed
then the d character went on strike then the E character went on strike also because D fellar was doing E's work for it.

I can now officially confirm that most of Bob's critters names contain either a "d" or an "e"  Bob's name doesnt because he is B O B  Open-mouthed
just dont ask me how long it took to do the captions for the album pictures Confused
On top of all this, most of the keys on my keyboard have become shoogly (thats a scotish word meaning "loose" Smile)
and Carlos? (g'day mate if your reading this Wink) I blame you for the shoogly keys, cos i was pounding them for seven days solid, doing the gbs event (which was great fun)
OMG another album bekons.... Surprised
I think i'll eo it later ... Wink

The Beautiful Game

Hi Everybody!
I hope you are all having a great weekend.
I was listening to my favourite radio station early this morning, and I have to say this. I cant believe that in this-the 21st Century, there is a question, which apparantly seems to forever go unanswered...or certainly one that no-one can ever seem to agree or concur on. What's the question you ask? ok here it is...
"Did the ball cross the line?"  well did it? It's a serious question because there are people out there who care a lot about the answer.
Ye may laugh but you wouldnt believe how much air time was dedicated this morning to this question (again)
Did the ball cross the line
yes it did
no it didnt
did
didnt
and then the insults start
stupid incompetant bungling referee
blame the linesmen
If you really want to know the answer, watch the immediate response of the players nearest to the ball..
oh? but this time the ball seemed to be in play forever... it hovered at the goal mouth for at least Five minutes, while it decided if indeed it was ever going to cross the line, and then when it actually did (or did it? Confused) Well nobody can agree *The argument is still waging as I type here ...
Then come the suggestions ...
why dont we have extra linesmen? Oh i know you would like to know the answer to that question LOL so here it is... it seems that there is a shortage of expertise in this field (so to speak) and all hands are on deck for every match..so where are these extra linesmen going to be found. Well that would involve training new blood.
I'm thinking "uh oh? Thinking"  now were gonna start talking about money <SIGH>
so i switched the radio off at that point... but im lying in bed trying to go back to sleep, but curiousity made me switch back on again ...
Why cant the ball crossing the line (or not?) be shown on a zoom lens and flashed up on the screen for all the players and fans to see..and that would resolve things wouldnt it?  (well wouldnt it? Confused)
but um? no its not do-able for at least two reasons, We dont want to take the power away from the ref.. now do we? and also we dont want passions to be inflamed (do we?  *scritches head Sarcastic)
I'm not sure, but somehow as i listened to all these voices on the radio this moning, i found it strangely comforting, It took me back to my childhood, and memories of my father, and my grandad and uncles, who in their turn all listened and debated on the self same argument "did that ball actually cross the line?"
No they never got the answer either...
Then there was mention of some sixty thousand linesmen (yep sixty thousand) and how every one of them could have a varying opinion on wether or not the ball crossed the line...sixty thousand opinions? GOOD GRIEF"
But actually? if ye come to think of it...down the years theres been a dam sight more than a mere sixty thou opinions on that blessed ball...
I couldnt take anymore and switched the radio off again. My head was starting to hurt.
I cant help thinking that there is a moral to be drawn from this story, or some kind of comparison to life events.. im not sure
But I have come to one conclusion. I'm pretty certain that everyone involved in the beautiful game, enjoys arguing the toss over what happened to the ball, I dont think anyone wants technoligy to take this agreeable past -time away from them, so there you have it you linesmen and especially you goalies. It looks like you are set to be the fall guys for the next 100 years.
only one thing left to say really...
Please can i have my ball back?  Open-mouthed
